SICI-TNAU Canada Visit Highlights

 

McGill University: Meeting with Dr. H. Deep Saini, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of McGill University, along with Dr. Geethalakshmi, Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, facilitated by the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute.

 

Concordia University: Had wonderful and productive deliberations between Dr. V Geethalakshmi and her team from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and Dr. Graham Carr, President & Vice-Chancellor of Concordia University, Montreal, facilitated by the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute.

 

High Commissioner of India in Canada: Meeting with His Excellency Sanjay Kumar Verma, High Commissioner of India, Hon. M.R.K Panneerselvam, Minister of Agriculture, Tamil Nadu, and the TNAU delegation, facilitated by the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute.

 

The signing of MoU between Dalhousie University (DAL) and Tamil Nadu Agriculture University (TNAU): An important memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed, with attendees including Hon. M.R.K Panneerselvam, Minister of Agriculture, Tamil Nadu, Dr. Geetalakshmi, Vice-Chancellor of TNAU, and representatives from Dalhousie University and the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute.

    Western University visit to India

     

    Dr. Alan Shepard, President of Western University, along with his team, embarked on a week-long institutional mission to India from August 21 to 24, 2023. The delegation visited key cities, including New Delhi and Hyderabad,  with the primary objective of showcasing and strengthening Western University's presence in India. This visit was made possible through the facilitation of the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute.

    Update on Short-Term Virtual Courses

     

    The short-term virtual course on “Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management: Role of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning’ is currently open for registration, participants can learn and master the Investment and portfolio with help of AI and Machine Learning.     NMIMS Deemed-to-be University

     

    On August 10th, 2023, NMIMS Deemed-to-be University hosted the G20 Round Table Conference, marking a milestone in promoting global collaboration of HEIs in shaping sustainable and better future. The core aim was to explore international collaborations to facilitate exchange of ideas and best practices in building capacities of HEIs in promoting quality of education, equipping students with knowledge and skills to promote employability and create sustainable future.

     

    Eminent global figures attended, including Dr. Joanna Newman, Chief Executive  & Secretary-General of ACU, as Chief Guest. Dr. Monica Kennedy,  Senior Trade & Investment Commissioner -Mumbai, India- Austrade, Dr. Prachi Kaul, Director, Shastri Indo Canadian Institute (SICI), Mrs. Marja-Sirkka Einig, Deputy Consul General, Federal Republic of Germany in Mumbai, Ms. Sita Raiter, Public Diplomacy Officer, U.S. Consulate General, Mumbai, Dr. Ryan Pereira, Regional Officer, United States-India Educational Foundation and Ms. Rittika Chanda Parruck, Director- Education, British Council enriched the dialogue.

     

    Kwantlen Polytechnic University 

    Dr. Asma Sayed has been appointed as the interim Special Advisor, Strategic Initiatives at Kwantlen Polytechnic University beginning September 1, 2023. In this role, Dr. Sayed will focus on establishing relationships and partnerships with the South Asian community in KPU’s catchment areas, supporting KPU’s students of South Asian descent (both domestic and international), creating a better teaching, learning, research, and engagement  experience for our South Asian students, employees, and community members, and exploring the establishment of a centre for South Asian initiatives. Serving as a link between KPU and South Asian communities in the Lower Mainland and across Canada, the position will also foster an understanding across KPU and beyond about South Asian communities and their heterogeneity, and position KPU as a leader in Surrey and the surrounding region for advancing partnerships with South Asian communities. 

     

    A Canada Research Chair in South Asian Literary and Cultural Studies and faculty member in the English department, Faculty of Arts, Dr. Asma Sayed previously chaired KPU’s Task Force on Anti-Racism and served as the interim Associate Vice-President for Anti-Racism from October 2022-August 2023. She is KPU’s liaison for the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute.
