As our Canadian and Indian member universities are preparing and settling into the fall term, anticipating another academic year of uncertainty, I would like to take a few moments to thank our wonderful and responsive office staff in both the India and Canada offices. In late September, we had the first joint India – Canada offices staff meeting. It was great to see everyone gathered and discussing how to move SICI forward; how to coordinate activities between the two offices; and brainstorming programmes and events for the coming year. As far as anyone can remember, that was the first time they were purposely gathered together, and many ideas for the coming year were discussed. We hope to meet monthly to strengthen and better coordinate the bi-national activities and member services SICI provides to our member institutions.
As we continue to work with the Government of India on the renegotiation of our MOU, we also are reaching out to Canadian Provincial and Indian State governments. In Canada, we have had ongoing discussions with the governments of Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan. In early November will we sign a MOU with the government of Saskatchewan. We also recently met with Opportunities New Brunswick (NB) and will follow up with NB ministers in the near future. In India, we have met with the governments of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala, and Haryana. Our virtual activities continue with several well attended webinars. Coming out of our staff meeting we hope to soon launch a new virtual programme we call the Shastri Mapping and Matching the Interest Workshops. We will gather member discipline experts together to discuss the current research interests and problems and attempt to match potential collaborators through 2 half-day workshops. Please watch for the announcements and encourage research at your institutions to attend. I hope all of you are healthy and that we all have an academic year with minimal pandemic disruptions.
Thank you!
