 Indian Members' Council Meeting 

          

SICI recently hosted its highly anticipated Annual Indian Members’ Council Meeting, a virtual gathering where member institutions came together to discuss SICI’s year-round programs, activities, and key strategic matters. Distinguished representatives from India and Canada joined the meeting, fostering fruitful collaborations and exploring opportunities for success. Ms. Jennifer Daubney, Minister (Commercial) from the High Commission of Canada in New Delhi, provided valuable updates on the initiatives of the Government of Canada.

 

During the meeting, Professor (Dr.) Srikrishna Deva Rao, Vice Chancellor of the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR) University, Hyderabad was appointed as SICI’s new incoming Vice-President/President-Elect.

    The Canadian Members’ Council and Annual General Meeting of the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (SICI) concluded with great enthusiasm and optimism. Dr. B. Hariharan gracefully passed the leadership baton to Dr. Pavneesh Madan, the newly appointed President of SICI.  During the meeting, a moment of silence honored the late Prof. John Wood, a distinguished figure in SICI’s history. Esteemed guests, including Mr. Chinmoy Naik, Deputy High Commissioner of the Indian High Commission in Ottawa and Ms. Meena Bhullar, First Secretary, and Trade Commissioner at the High Commission of Canada in New Delhi graced the event with their greetings.

    Update on Short-Term Virtual Courses

     

    SICI launched the Shastri Short-Term Virtual Course as its first initiative aimed at achieving self-reliance through revenue-generation and collaboration between esteemed faculty from India and Canada. SICI has completed five online courses successfully. The sixth one, "Disaster Risk and Resilience" is presently accepting registrations for interested fraternities. This multidisciplinary course offers a nine-week learning experience to learn about the science of hazards, quantifying risk, and mastering catastrophe management. Register Now !!!

    Shiv Nadar University

     

    Within the first year of SICI’s partnership, three undergraduate students from SNU bagged the prestigious SICI MITACS Globalink Internship Award for the Summer of 2023. These young women who are eager to learn and explore the world in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Management).  

     

    NMIMS School of Business Management 

     

    On May 10, 2023, NMIMS School of Business Management (SBM) hosted a delegation from the Faculty of Management, Dalhousie University, Canada. The delegation for the two-week study visit to India was led by Dr Hamed Aghakhani, Professor of Marketing and Dr Binod Sundarajan, Director & Professor of Management, both from the Faculty of Management. The delegation’s visit to India was a part of an international experience course, “Doing Business in Emerging Markets,” offered by the Rowe School of Business. Dalhousie University professors and students were in awe of India's fintech industry advancements and praised the UPI system and other innovations.

     

    Another exciting news is that NMIMS MPSTME BTech Data Science student Anidya Singh Bhandari has been selected for the prestigious SICI Mitacs Globalink Research Internship for 2023. Currently, he is working with Prof. Amina Stoddart at Dalhousie University, Canada on the project "Data Analytics to advance municipal wastewater treatment".
